about

This song and the five-song EP it was originally released on, Remains In Me (2011), were both inspired by the Michael Apted documentary, Incident at Oglala. This song is directly about the "incident at Oglala" which led to the unjustifiable imprisonment of Leonard Peltier, who is still in prison.

lyrics

Genocide and Justice
(©2011 Anders/O'Bitz)

They turned down the road
A bumpy dirt road
In two city cars
On a country dirt road

Drove into war
As if it weren't war
They died in this war
Off a country dirt road

Charged with murder
Within an unjust war
Just 'cause the victors said so
Genocide and justice
The mixture does not hold
Even if the victors say so
We keep saying it's so

From Little Big Horn
To Wounded Knee
To Jumping Bull ranch
And '73

The war is won
We'll celebrate
Columbus Day
Let's have a parade

Charged with murder
Within an unjust war
Just 'cause the victors said so
Genocide and justice
The mixture does not hold
Even if the victors say so
We keep saying it's so

Wind Chases the Sun
Still dancing his dance
A circle of one
Never given a chance

Until his freedom
Is duly won
No parades
No Independence Day

Charged with murder
Within an unjust war
Just 'cause the victors said so
Genocide and justice
The mixture does not hold
Even if the victors say so
We keep saying it's so
